Start Your Engines: Codegeist 2025 Hackathon Is Here
Codegeist 2025 is officially open. This year, we’ve brought you a hackathon that’s all about building apps that help teams perform like elite racing crews inspired by Atlassian Williams Racing — fast, coordinated, and making the right calls under pressure.
Whether you’re a seasoned Forge developer or just getting started with app development for Jira and Confluence, Codegeist is your chance to build something meaningful, connect with the developer community, and get recognized for your work.
What is Codegeist?
Codegeist is Atlassian’s annual hackathon where developers from around the world build apps for Atlassian offerings like Jira and Confluence using Forge, Atlassian’s developer platform. It’s not just about competing—it’s about learning, experimenting, and shipping something you’re proud of.
This year’s theme focuses on teamwork and high-performance collaboration. Think apps that help teams make faster decisions, improve coordination under pressure, and work with the precision of a racing pit crew.
Why participate?
Last year, developers built over 150 apps during Codegeist. Many of those apps are now in the Atlassian Marketplace, solving real problems for teams worldwide.
Take Mateusz Dabrowski, who built the Salesforce Companion for Jira to connect Jira with Salesforce. There’s also Serhii Kravchenko, who created LaunchNotes to help teams visualize complex project relationships. The Appsvio team shipped Smart Checklist AI for Jira, bringing AI-powered checklists to Jira.

Second and third place winners receive $8,000 and $5,000 respectively, plus featured coverage on the Atlassian blog.
We’re also awarding $2,000 bonus prizes for the best apps that run on Atlassian Apps, best Rovo apps, and best apps built using Rovo Dev. The first 300 eligible submissions receive an Atlassian Developer Swag Pack. Visit the official rules for complete prize details and eligibility requirements.

A few tips from past participants: start with a problem you actually face and pick a category that matches it. Keep your solution focused—solve one problem well rather than trying to do everything. Make sure your app is intuitive, because user experience matters as much as functionality.
